TWO JAIL INMATES DRINK BLEACH AND ARE HOSPITALIZED
07/13/2012
Two Baxter County Jail inmates were taken to Baxter Regional Medical Center early Thursday evening after it was learned they had intentionally swallowed bleach. HALEY MARIE SULLIVAN, 26 years old of Salesville, and BRANDY MAE QUALLS, 23 years old of Lone Rock, were treated at the hospital and later returned to the Detention Center.
A cleaning cart had been taken into the female housing pod to allow the inmates to clean their housing area, which is a routine, daily procedure. These two inmates purposely drank chlorine bleach from the cleaning cart. Other inmates alerted jail staff that there was a problem when those two inmates started to become ill.
The inmates’ motivation for drinking the bleach has yet to be determined, and today both were transferred to a contracted facility of the Arkansas State Hospital system for screening and further evaluation.
BRANDY QUALLS was being held without bond in the Detention Center on one (1) felony and one (1) misdemeanor arrest warrant for Failure to Appear in Court. HALEY SULLIVAN was being held in the Detention Center on multiple felony and misdemeanor charges of Forgery, Theft, Failure to Appear in Court, and for having her bond revoked on previous charges. Both will be returned to custody at the Detention Center once they have been released from the state facility.
