The Sheriff's Office is announcing that visitation for jail inmates at the Baxter County Detention Center is set to resume next Monday, October 28th. Visitation had been discontinued for several months due to construction interference from the jail expansion project.
The new public lobby area at the Detention Center is already open to the public now. In the new lobby area is located the automated kiosk device that the public may use to place money on the accounts of jail inmates in order that they may use those funds to make allowable purchases from the commissary. There is also a vending machine available in the lobby for drinks and snacks, as well as a seating area.
When visitation resumes on Monday, October 28th, family members will enter the Detention Center facility through the new front lobby. There will be a jailer stationed in the hallway area to register and process visitors, who will then wait in the lobby area until they are called and it is their turn to visit.
Visitation hours have been expanded to accommodate increased inmate populations, and the new schedule is as follows:
Monday: Male inmates with last names beginning with A through M, 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
Tuesday: No visitation.
Wednesday: Male inmates with last names beginning with N through Z, 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
Thursday: No visitation.
Friday: Female inmates, 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
Saturday: No visitation.
Sunday: No visitation.
Each jail inmate is allowed an aggregate total of thirty (30) minutes of visitation per week. This time may be broken down into increments and utilized as the inmate chooses between various family and friends.
There are a number of regulations and restrictions concerning visitation. They may be found on the Sheriff's Office FAQ page under "VISITATION TIMES AND RULES" at this link: https://www.baxtercountysheriff.com/faq
It is suggested that all visitors review these rules and regulations before arriving at the facility. All rules are subject to future change without prior notice at the discretion of the Sheriff.
The new housing additions to the Detention Center will also be opening soon. Watch for upcoming announcements for a public open house.
