A probation absconder from the State of Florida, 36 year old CRAWFORD LEE CROXTON, was arrested today on video voyeurism charges following an investigation into a complaint the Sheriff’s Office received on or about August 2nd from a convenience store located in Baxter County.  A store employee found a hidden cellular telephone with the video camera activated beneath and behind the toilet of the restroom.  The camera recorded the suspect as he positioned and repositioned the camera several times and moved several items around to help conceal the camera.  The suspect then left the restroom with the hidden camera still set to record.  There was evidence found on the phone that a man was recorded when he was using the restroom after the suspect had left.

The Sheriff’s Office seized the phone and posted video still photographs of the suspect on its website asking for assistance in identifying him.  Today, the Sheriff’s Office received a citizen tip that the suspect was in the area of U. S. Highway 62 East near McDonald’s and was driving a 2016 GMC Terrain with Louisiana license plates.  Sheriff’s deputies responded to the area.  Deputies observed the suspect vehicle driving on Highway 62/412 near Carmart and turned around on it.  The driver turned into McDonald’s parking lot across from the Highway 62/412 bypass, and the vehicle went out of sight behind the building.  Witnesses told deputies that the driver ran inside McDonald’s.  The suspect was then seen to exit the building on the opposite side, and he ran across the highway.  Several deputies converged on the area, and the suspect, later identified as CRAWFORD LEE CROXTON, was arrested and taken into custody near the Harbor Freight building a short time later.

The suspect admitted to deputies that he had placed the camera phone inside the restroom in the hopes of catching his girlfriend cheating on him with another man. CROXTON has a criminal history record in five states that qualifies him as a habitual offender.   The State of Florida has decided that it will not extradite CROXTON for the probation violation.  CROXTON is charged here with:

Video Voyeurism – Felony
Breaking or Entering – Felony
Fleeing – Misdemeanor
Habitual Offender – Penalty Enhancement

CROXTON is being held in lieu of $25,000 bond with a court appearance set in Circuit Court for August 22nd.
