Dillon Douglas Fields |
The Sheriff’s Office has apprehended 23 year old DILLON DOUGLAS FIELDS of Buford following a two hour manhunt that originated in the Buford area at approximately 12:15 PM today when two Sheriff’s Investigators were following-up on open burglary cases.
Investigators went to an address in the 500 block of Baxter CR 643 to try to make contact with a suspect in the burglaries they were investigating. While there, they noticed power cords running to a building on the adjacent property and walked over there to investigate further. They found a man, later identified as DILLON FIELDS, hiding inside a vehicle that had been stored inside that building.
Investigators found methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia in the vehicle with FIELDS as well as a loaded 9mm handgun that the serial number had been defaced on. After coming out of the vehicle, FIELDS ran away on foot from the investigators, and a manhunt was then organized. A sawed-off shotgun was later found in the vehicle also.
After the manhunt got underway, a citizen living on Baxter CR 1075, which is West of Baxter CR 643, discovered that DILLON FIELDS was trying to steal his tractor. When the property owner confronted FIELDS, he took off running again. Warning shots were fired by the property owner, but FIELDS did not stop.
About a dozen deputies, the Sheriff’s Office helicopter, and the canine tracking team with the Arkansas Department of Corrections – North Central Unit were involved in the search for FIELDS. He was captured approximately three-quarters of a mile down Cartney Road from the Buford four corners area in the woods near some turkey barns.
Deputies arrested FIELDS and transported him to the Baxter County Detention Center where he has been booked in on expected charges of:
Possession of Controlled Substance – Methamphetamine – Felony
Possession of Drug Paraphernalia – Felony
Simultaneous Possession of Drugs and Firearms – Felony
Possession of Defaced Firearms (2 counts) – Felonies
Fleeing – Felony
DILLON FIELDS has a bond of $25,000 on those charges and will appear in the Circuit Court to answer later this month.
