ONE PERSON KILLED, THREE OTHERS INJURED IN BOATING ACCIDENT

One person was killed and three others injured in a boating accident Sunday afternoon, August 5th, on Lake Norfork. At approximately 12:05 PM, the Sheriff’s Office received a report of a boating accident somewhere near the 101 Marina. It was reported that a boat had capsized, and a woman was trapped underneath it, as well as other injuries reported. The boat was found to be a 1990 Mariah MX19 pleasure craft.
Emergency personnel responded to the area, including a rescue boat from the 101 Gamaliel Area Fire Department, as did persons in the area on private craft. Responders were able to remove the boat from on top of the woman and immediately began first aid, including CPR. The other occupants from the boat were also retrieved from the water.
All the injured parties were transported by boat to the shoreline at the Bidwell Point Park swim beach where emergency medical personnel and an ambulance were waiting. Efforts to revive the woman continued but were not successful. The woman was pronounced deceased at 1:38 PM by the Baxter County Coroner.
The other three injured persons were transported to Baxter Regional Medical Center in Mountain Home. The deceased was identified as 71 year old CAROLYN LEE DAVIS, who was from Maryland Heights, Missouri, as was her injured husband also aboard. The other two injured persons were from Kirksville, Missouri.
The accident is under investigation by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission.
Agencies responding to this accident were the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office, U. S. Army Corp of Engineers Park Rangers, Arkansas Game and Fish Wildlife Officers, 101 Gamaliel Area Fire Department, Arkansas State Police, Baxter County Coroner’s Office, Air EVAC, and Baxter Regional Medical Center.
