11/06/2017
The Sheriff’s Office is investigating an unattended death that was discovered Friday afternoon, November 3rd. A welfare check request had been broadcast earlier Friday morning by the Izard County Sheriff’s Office for 45 year old RICHARD ERIC MUNSON, who was said to be disturbed and possibly suicidal.
At approximately 4:18 PM, deputies were dispatched to Phipps Manor Drive because the vehicle that MUNSON was said to have been driving was discovered parked there and unoccupied. The immediate wooded area was searched by members of the canine tracking team from the North Central Unit – Arkansas Department of Corrections. The body of RICHARD MUNSON was found approximately 100 yards off the roadway, as was the firearm he is believed to have used to take his own life.
The body of the deceased is being sent to the Arkansas State Medical Examiner’s Office in Little Rock to confirm cause and manner of death. There is no sign of foul play. The case will remain open pending the autopsy results.
