TWO JAIL INMATES CAUGHT IN POSSESSION OF DRUGS

Two inmates in the Baxter County Jail have been charged with additional drug offenses after a Jailer found them to be in possession of a controlled substance on January 23rd. Jailer Christopher Joans was on duty. He observed suspicious activity inside a holding cell and went in to check two inmates confined together there.
Jailer Joans found two types of pills that the inmates had hidden and concealed in their socks. These were seized as evidence. They were ultimately identified as clonazepam and alprazolam pills, which are schedule IV controlled substances. The two inmates are 28 year old JOSEPH PAUL SMITH of rural Mountain Home, who has been incarcerated since January 11th on other drug charges and a probation violation. The other inmate is 27 year old SETH ANDREW WITHROW of Midway, who has been incarcerated since January 22nd on a probation violation and for a court mandated sentence. It is not known at present who smuggled the controlled substance into the jail.
SMITH and WITHROW are each charged additionally with:
Furnishing, Possessing, or Using Prohibited Articles – Felony
Possession of Schedule IV Controlled Substance – Misdemeanor
They each have a bond of $5,000 on these charges and will appear in Circuit Court to answer on Thursday, January 26th.
