"CLICK IT OR TICKET" CAMPAIGN BEGINS MAY 16TH.
05/11/2016
The Baxter County Sheriff’s Office will participate in the “Click It or Ticket” campaign starting May 16th. This is a national campaign involving law enforcement agencies from around the country. The campaign runs until June 5th.
As Memorial Day weekend approaches and the summer vacation season kicks off, law enforcement wants to make sure people are doing the one thing that can save them in a traffic accident: buckling up. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, nearly half of the 21,022 passenger vehicle occupants killed in accidents in 2014 were unrestrained. At night from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m., that number soared to 57 percent of those killed. That’s why one focus of the Click It or Ticket campaign is nighttime enforcement.
The bottom line is that seat belts save lives. If these enforcement crackdowns get people’s attention, and get them to buckle up, then law enforcement has been successful in one of its primary responsibilities……..promoting the welfare and safety of the public.
