The Sheriff’s Office has arrested a 37 year old parolee, JASON ALLEN HICKS of Midway, on felony charges related to the break-in of several buildings on Baxter CR 27 and the theft of items from those buildings.
It was reported to the Sheriff’s Office on March 11th that several buildings and structures had been broken into at 1603 CR 27. Investigators found evidence of forced entry into these buildings by means of doors being forced open and windows broken.
During the investigation, it was determined that various articles of personal property were missing. These included a Mitsubishi flat screen television, scale model stagecoaches, four antique rifles, various tools, and a Generac generator. The collective value of these items has not yet been determined.
In addition to the damaged property and stolen articles, one of the beds had been tossed and a liquor bottle was found on the bed.
During the course of the investigation, a witness informed authorities that JASON HICKS had been observed the night before carrying a large flat screen television into his home on Sweet Fern Ln in Midway, and other indicators also pointed to HICKS as a suspect.
Sheriff’s Investigators and officers from the Arkansas Department of Community Corrections went to HICK’s residence on Sweet Fern Lane that morning. When they arrived, HICKS fled from the officers. After a brief search, HICKS was found hiding inside a storage unit at an adjacent storage rental complex and was taken into custody. A search of HICK’s residence revealed a Generac generator on the property, which was subsequently determined by serial number comparison to be the one stolen from the CR 27 burglary. The stolen tools were later found inside a cooler behind another house near the victim’s property.
The remaining stolen property has not been recovered.
JASON ALLEN HICKS, already on parole with a prior arrest history for residential burglary, has been incarcerated in the Baxter County Detention Center since March 11th and is charged with:
Residential Burglary – Felony
Breaking or Entering (5 counts) – Felonies
Theft of Property (5 counts) – Felonies
Criminal Mischief in the First Degree – Felony
Parole Violation – Felony
HICKS is being held in lieu of $50,000 bond on the new charges and without bond on the parole violation. He will appear in the Circuit Court to answer later this month.
