JAIL INMATE DIES AT HOSPITAL AFTER BEING TRANSPORTED TO EMERGENCY ROOM

A Baxter County Jail Inmate, 36 year old RAYLEN BARRETT COX of Lonoke, Arkansas, died this morning at Baxter Regional Medical Center after being transported to the emergency room by ambulance from the Detention Center.
RAYLEN COX had been booked into the Detention Center at approximately 8:00 AM Wednesday morning, December 23rd, after being arrested by the Mountain Home Police Department on a public intoxication charge. He was checked on at various times during his incarceration and was found to be non-responsive at approximately 5:50 AM this morning. Jail staff called for an ambulance and rendered aid to the inmate until the ambulance arrived . MR. COX was subsequently transported to the ER and was later pronounced dead there.
The Arkansas State Police was called to investigate the death. The Baxter County Coroner took possession of the decedent, who will be taken to the Arkansas State Medical Examiner’s Office in Little Rock for autopsy to determine cause and manner of death.
