LOCAL MAN ARRESTED ON FELONY FAIL TO APPEAR WARRANTS

A local fugitive from justice, 49 year old JOHN LEROY LEWIS, was arrested this afternoon on outstanding felony warrants after a brief search in the area of the Clysta Willett City Park on Rossi Rd. in Mountain Home.
At approximately 1:09 PM, Sheriff’s Lieutenant Rick Lucy was driving on Rossi Rd. and overheard a verbal disturbance taking place. One of the parties involved was on foot nearby and was approached by Lieutenant Lucy, who made an attempt to inquire into the circumstances of the altercation. At this point, the man fled on foot into a wooded area adjacent to the Clysta Willett Park.
Several deputies and an Arkansas State Police Trooper converged on the park. The man who fled was apprehended a short time later. He was identified as JOHN LEROY LEWIS and was taken into custody without further incident. The Circuit Court had issued warrants for his arrest on August 1st after he failed to appear to answer several drug-related charges.
JOHN LEROY LEWIS was transported to the Detention Center at 1:50 PM where he is being held without bond on charges of:
Failure to Appear (2 counts) – Felonies
Contempt of Court (1 count) – Misdemeanor
Fleeing on Foot – Misdemeanor
He will appear before the Circuit Court to answer on August 27th.
