The Sheriff’s Office assisted the Alcohol Beverage Control Enforcement Division this past weekend with a compliance check at The Brickyard on Cranfield Road and made several arrests for Minor in Possession of alcohol.

     Deputies accompanied an ABC Enforcement Agent to the Brickyard for the compliance check at approximately 12:15 AM on June 29^th after the ABC Agent received prior complaints of minors consuming alcohol inside the club.

     Persons 18 years and older were permitted to enter the establishment that evening, with persons under 21 years old being marked and identified with a black “X” on the hand or arm to prevent alcohol sales.

     Out of the persons checked, six were found to be below the age of 21 years and were found to have consumed alcohol.  Each was arrested for Minor in Possession of Alcohol and transported to the Detention Center.  During the booking process, three of these underage persons were found to not have the black “X” mark. 

     Those arrested as a result of the compliance check were:

ROBERT B. LOFTIN, 19 years old of Ward, Arkansas.
JOSEPH L. REED, 20 years old of West Plains, Missouri.
MELVIN C. BYLER, 20 years old of Everton, Arkansas.
CORY JAMES COOK, 20 years old of Calico Rock, Arkansas.
ASHLEY BROKESHOULDER, 19 years old of Beebe, Arkansas.
PRESTON K. SHERREL, 19 years old of Calico Rock, Arkansas.

     They were each booked into the Detention Center and released from custody on $220 bail, and they will appear in District Court on July 10^th. 

     Following these arrests, deputies were called back to The Brickyard at approximately 1:21 AM in response to a person trying to start a fight in the parking lot.  Upon arrival, the manager of the business was holding a subject on the ground.  The person had been told by management to leave but attempted to come back inside and then became belligerent.  Deputies placed this person under arrest and transported him also to the Detention Center.  This person was later found to be using his cousin’s driver license and was initially booked under the cousin’s name.  Jailers later learned that his true identity was CODY LYNN POE, 19 years old of Fayetteville and was re-booked under the correct name.

     CODY LYNN POE was charged with:

     Public Intoxication – Misdemeanor
     Minor in Possession of Alcohol – Misdemeanor
     Disorderly Conduct – Misdemeanor
     Obstructing Governmental Operations – Misdemeanor

     POE was released from custody after posting bond in the amount of $840, and he will appear in the District Court on July 10^th.

     Arkansas law requires law enforcement officers to seize the driver license of persons aged 18-20 who are arrested for Minor in Possession of Alcohol.  Those license will be forwarded to the Arkansas Office of Driver Control for administrative suspension.
