The Baxter County Sheriff’s Office website, www.baxtercountysheriff.com, has now had all functions fully restored, including the popular jail inmate roster.
Certain features of the website, including the inmate roster and warrants sections, had not been updating for the past week due to a new computer server being installed and set up at the Sheriff’s Office. The new server will allow our networked computer system to operate faster, and it will provide a greater level of security for the system.
The website was created for the Sheriff’s Office and put online in November, 2007. One of the primary purposes of the website is to allow the Sheriff’s Office to share important and useful information with the public. This information sharing capability contributes to our ongoing efforts to conduct the affairs of the Sheriff’s Office in a transparent manner by making public information available for viewing and by allowing us to quickly issue press releases and announcements of public interest or concern.
People and businesses in the community have come to rely on the information that is provided via the website. There are more than 130,000 visits to our website each month with thousands who receive email and text alerts of the inmate roster, sex offenders, most wanted, and press releases. During 2013, there were 1,706,589 visits to the website, and 400,712 of those were unique. The popularity of the Sheriff’s Office website continues to grow. The latest feature added was an “Alert” feature, which will show up on the home page whenever an alert is issued for various reasons.
No tax dollars were used to pay for the creation of the website or for upgrades and enhancements. Those costs have been paid for exclusively by profits derived from services used by jail inmates.
The Sheriff’s Office appreciates the patience of the public during these upgrades and appreciates your continued support.

Baxter County Sheriff
