THEFT SUSPECT FLEES OFFICERS AND IS APPREHENDED

     A Mountain Home man has been arrested on felony theft and drug charges after fleeing from officers Wednesday morning at 3824 Highway 126 North.  WILLIAM J. LEWIS, JR., 27 years of age, was sought in connection with the theft of a 2008 Kawasaki Ninja 250 CC motorcycle valued at $5,000 that was reported stolen on October 21st from a residence at 6971 Highway 5 North in the Midway area. 

     WILLIAM LEWIS was developed as suspect in the crime.  Acting on a citizen tip, Sheriff’s Deputies, Arkansas State Police Troopers, and Arkansas Department of Community Corrections Officers went to 3824 Highway 126 North at approximately 8:17 AM Wednesday morning to attempt to apprehend LEWIS.  Upon arrival, they observed LEWIS inside the residence.  WILLIAM LEWIS fled from the residence on foot.  He was pursued and apprehended by State Trooper Britt Clements a short time later near the Missionary Baptist Church.  When LEWIS was being searched, officers found approximately one gram of methamphetamine in his front pocket.  The stolen motorcycle was recovered at the residence.

     WILLIAM J. LEWIS, JR. was transported to the Detention Center and incarcerated in lieu of $25,000 bond and will appear in Circuit Court today on charges of:

Theft by Receiving – Class C Felony
Possession of Methamphetamine -  Class D Felony
Fleeing from Officer – Class D Misdemeanor

     In addition, LEWIS has a no bond hold for violation of parole.
