The Sheriff's Office has arrested 36 year old CHADWICK DALE WHITLOW of Mountain Home on several felony charges following an investigation into a residential burglary at 1992 CR 30 that was reported on October 20th. A next door neighbor heard noise at that unoccupied residence and went to investigate. The neighbor found two persons leaving with a truck and flat bed trailer loaded with various articles, including copper and scrap metal. The neighbor blocked the roadway off and called the Sheriff's Office.
Deputies made contact with the two men, one of whom was CHADWICK DALE WHITLOW, and initiated a preliminary investigation. WHITLOW and the other man gave deputies a story about how and why they had the items on the truck and trailer, but the story could not be immediately verified. Deputies seized the articles, and a check of the National Crime Information Center indicated that CHADWICK WHITLOW had an outstanding warrant for his arrest from the Faulkner County Sheriff's Office in Conway. WHITLOW was taken into custody on that warrant and transported to the Detention Center for incarceration. The second man was released pending further investigation.
Sheriff's Investigator George Edings later went to 1992 CR 30 where the two men had come from. He found that a central air conditioning unit had been removed from the residence, which unit was found among the articles in the possession of WHITLOW and the other man in the vehicle. Further inspection of the house revealed that all of the copper in the house had been stolen. The copper plumbing and electrical wiring had been ripped from the walls, and the entire house had been ransacked. Numerous light fixtures had been ripped from the ceiling, and the furniture and dishes had been destroyed. Nearly all of the tin from the outbuildings was missing. A search of "Leads on Line" revealed that CHADWICK WHITLOW had previously sold numerous items to a local recycler, including tin and copper wire and copper tubing, that matched what had been stolen from the house. The damages to the residence and outbuildings was estimated at approximately $50,000.
CHADWICK DALE WHITLOW has been charged in Baxter County with:
Residential Burglary - Class B Felony
Theft of Property - Class B Felony
Criminal Mischief - Class B Felony
WHITLOW remains in the Detention Center with bond set at $50,000. He will appear in Circuit Court at a later date. Charges against the other suspect are pending.
