SHERIFF'S AUCTION OF SEIZED ITEMS A SUCCESS
05/31/2013
The Baxter County Sheriff’s auction held this morning for seized firearms, vehicles, and other miscellaneous items was very successful. Acting pursuant to court orders, Sheriff’s Office personnel catalogued and prepared to auction two (2) motor vehicles, one (1) motorcycle, approximately one hundred forty (140) firearms of various types, and some other miscellaneous items. Most of these items were seized during the course of criminal investigations into drug and weapons cases.
Walker Auction Service of Mountain Home conducted the auction beginning at 9:30 AM this morning. Bidding for the firearms was restricted to persons holding valid Federal Firearms Dealer Licenses. Other items were open for public bidding. An estimated one hundred (100) people attended.
The gross proceeds from the auction were $47,256.00. After auction service fees are paid, the net proceeds will be $43,399.88. The firearms sold collectively for $29,120.00. The vehicles and other miscellaneous items sold collectively for $18,136.00. Pursuant to distribution as ordered by the court, the Prosecuting Attorney’s Seizure Account will receive $30,556.00 of the proceeds, while the Sheriff’s Office, through the necessary appropriation procedures, should receive $16,700.00. All funds received from the auction will be held the minimum period of time prescribed by law before they can be used for authorized public purposes.
