MULTIPLE CHARGES FILED AGAINST RURAL MOUNTAIN HOME MAN

04/08/2013

John Eric Saathoff

JOHN ERIC SAATHOFF, 20 years old of rural Mountain Home, is in the Baxter County Detention Center following his arrest Saturday, April 6th on multiple felony and misdemeanor charges.

At approximately 6:55 PM on April 6th, Sheriff’s Corporal Scott Thrasher was dispatched to a residence at 393 CR 916 on a vehicle theft complaint.  Corporal Thrasher met with the owner of the vehicle, which was stated to be a 2004 Buick RDV SUV.  The owner stated she had just returned from a local pharmacy after filling her son’s prescription.  Shortly thereafter, the owner heard what she believed to be her vehicle leaving her driveway.  The owner went to the door and observed her vehicle being driven away from the property by a person known to her to be JOHN SAATHOFF.  The owner told Corporal Thrasher that the keys to her vehicle were inside her residence, and that SAATHOFF had to have come into the residence to take the keys.  She also noted that the prescription that was filled was now missing 17 pills, which were said to be Vyvanse 30 mg.

While Corporal Thrasher was taking the report from the vehicle owner, Sgt. Charles Bost was dispatched to a motor vehicle accident on Cannie Baker Road.  Upon his arrival at the accident scene, it was determined that the driver was JOHN ERIC SAATHOFF and the vehicle involved was the one being reported stolen from Baxter CR 916.  SAATHOFF was taken into custody for Driving While Intoxicated and other charges.  The owner of the vehicle went to the accident scene to retrieve the vehicle.  At this time, it was determined by the owner that approximately $200.00 in cash was also missing from the vehicle.  The missing prescription pills were not found.

After JOHN SAATHOFF was searched and booked into the Detention Center, jailers had occasion to isolate him and search him a second time.  During this search, jailers found a small lighter, cigarette pieces, suspected marijuana, and two of the Vyvanse pills.  It is believed that SAATHOFF had these articles concealed in a body cavity when he was initially booked in.

JOHN ERIC SAATHOFF was charged with:

     Residential Burglary – Felony
     Theft of Property – Felony
     Theft of Property – Misdemeanor
Possession of Controlled Substance – Felony
     Furnishing Prohibited Articles – Felony
     Driving While Intoxicated – Misdemeanor
     Careless Driving – Misdemeanor
Driving While Licenses Suspended or Revoked – Misdemeanor

SAATHOFF is being held in lieu of $15,000 bond, with an appearance set in Baxter County Circuit Court for April 25th.
