The Baxter County Sheriff's Office and Norfork Police Department are asking for help from the public in solving the burglary of the City Hall in Norfork that was discovered on November 26, 2008. Norfork Police Chief Griffin found that the City Hall had been broken into when he arrived there at approximately 9:00 AM.
Chief Griffin found numerous papers and official city documents scattered on the floor and also found that two safes had been taken from the building. These safes contained various amounts of cash, checks, credit cards, and information concerning the city government. A locked box was also stolen from the Police Chief's Office. Chief Griffin and Sheriff's Investigators processed the crime scene for fingerprints and collected other evidence.
Later that morning, Norfork city employees notified the Mayor that they had located the safes at the end of a path off Sheid Road. The doors to both of the safes had been pried open. Approximately $1,100 in cash was missing, along with other articles. On Saturday, December 27th, additional money bags were found near the same area by some people who were out horseback riding.
The burglary remains under investigation, but there have been few leads to this point. If any member of the public has any information at all concerning this case, they are asked to call the Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigation Division at 425-7000 or tips may be left on the Sheriff's Office tip line at 424-4636.
