The Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting incident that occurred early Sunday morning, July 8th, in Lakeview.  At approximately 1:56 AM, the Sheriff’s Office was notified by a caller at 161 Lakeview Drive indicating that a female had attempted suicide in the basement of the residence by way of a handgun.

Deputies and emergency medical personnel responded, with deputies arriving at approximately 2:12 AM.  Deputies found a female in the basement who had apparently sustained a single gunshot wound to her face, but was still alive.  Deputies recovered a .38 caliber handgun at the scene.  The victim, identified as 65 year old Jane Truett, was initially transported to Baxter Regional Medical Center in Mountain Home, then later taken to Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri.  Her current condition is unknown.

Although reported as a suicide attempt, the details of the shooting remain unclear, and Sheriff’s Investigators and the Lakeview Police Department are continuing to probe the circumstances surrounding the incident.  Additional details may be released later as the investigation continues.
