Death Investigation Underway by Sheriff's Office of Apparent Suicide in Rural Southern Baxter County

     At approximately 2:55 pm, the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call at 19 Wild Fern Lane, Calico Rock address in Southern Baxter County.  The caller stated his son had apparently shot himself and was not breathing.

     Ambulance Personnel from Baxter Regional and Izard County along with first responders from the Norfork Fire Department and Air-E-Vac  Life Team responded to the scene. The victim was found in a camper trailer behind his parents residence. The victim was transported by ground ambulance to the Calico Rock Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased at approximately 4:05 pm.

     Sheriff’s Investigator Brad Hurst responded to the scene and after his initial investigation it is believed that the victim, 26 year old Jared Edwin Napier, of Calico Rock, died of a single self-inflicted gunshot to the chest from a 20 gauge shotgun. 

     The body of Jared Napier is being sent to the Arkansas State Medical Examiner to confirm the cause and manner of death.  No foul play is anticipated.
