SHERIFF'S OFFICE INVESTIGATES DEATH OF RURAL MIDWAY MAN

09/06/2011

The Baxter County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating the death of a rural Midway man at 400 Leawood Drive. On Sunday, September 5th at approximately 8:43 PM, the Sheriff’s Office was notified of a 911 call at that address indicating a man had found his father lying in the garage in a puddle of blood. Deputies and Emergency Medical Personnel were dispatched to the address, with Sheriff’s Sergeant Kevin Boucher arriving at approximately 8:52 PM.

Upon arrival, Sgt. Boucher and medical personnel found the victim to be deceased, apparently from a gunshot wound to the head. The victim was identified as 47 year old Ronald L. Boland. A handgun was found on the floor adjacent to the victim, along with a spent shell casing. These items were seized and taken into evidence. Initial indications are that the gunshot wound was self-inflicted.

The Baxter County Coroner’s Office was called to the scene to assist and to take custody of the body. The body of Ronald L. Boland has been transferred to the Arkansas State Medical Examiner’s Office in Little Rock for autopsy to determine the manner of death. The investigation will remain open until such time as the preliminary autopsy results are received, but no foul play is suspected at this time.
