YELLVILLE MAN CHARGED WITH FELONY AFTER ASSAULTING A PREGNANT WOMAN

06/01/2011

At approximately 3:03 AM this morning, the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office took a report that a domestic assault had occurred at 2127 Baxter CR 11 in the rural Mountain Home area.  Sheriff’s Sgt. Kevin Boucher responded to the address to investigate.  One of the persons involved in the disturbance, identified as Charles Andrew Meeks, had already left the scene before deputies arrived.

The victim told deputies that she and Meeks were arguing, and that he knocked her against the wall and made threats against her.  It was determined that the victim is 36 weeks pregnant, thereby making the Battery offense a felony.  She complained of pain from the incident but did not seek immediate medical attention.  In addition to the direct action against the victim, Meeks was also accused of punching a hole in the drywall of the house and causing damage to the residence, which is owned by a third party.

Deputies learned that Meeks had most likely returned to his residence in Marion County.  Assistance from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office was sought in helping to locate Charles Meeks and take him into custody.  At approximately 5:38 AM, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office informed us that they had located and arrested Meeks.  Meeks was delivered to the custody of Baxter County deputies at the county line and taken to the Baxter County Detention Center.

After consulting with Sheriff’s Investigator Lt. Johnson, Charles Andrew Meeks, 22 years old of Yellville, Arkansas, was charged with:

Domestic Battery 3rd Degree, Class D Felony
Criminal Mischief 2nd Degree, Class A Misdemeanor

Preliminary bond for Meeks was set at $15,000.  He is scheduled to appear in Baxter County Circuit Court on June 23rd.
